It's 7:30 pm on Thursday. I should be at Abundant Life Family Worship Church engaging in praise and worship at our mid-week service. Instead I am sitting at my dining room table looking at the fading sunset while listening to India.Arie's "Wings of Forgiveness" and allowing it to saturate my soul. I've been pushing myself to get up for the last 45 minutes; however, when I arrived home tonight I asked the Lord to renew my passion for writing. After Him, it is my truest friend. With this new blog, I feel a sense of purpose again.
As I mentioned in the "moi" section, I am a poet. It is the one gift I have that comes effortlessly. I stopped writing when I began my graduate program over 4 years ago. I convinced myself I didn't have time to write creatively when there were papers due and articles/books to be read. It wasn't until last Friday in my Financial Peace University class that I really thought about picking up a pen again (or sitting at my laptop) and just letting the words flow. I think best when I write. I say what God wants me to say rather than what I want to say, which tends to keep me out of trouble;)
I titled this blog 'Be the Most Beautiful U' because I strive to accomplish this daily, to love who God made me...flaws and all.
And you should as well. Love, dare I say, expose, those idiosyncrasies that make you unique and beautiful. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best in his essay Self Reliance, "there is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide". The only one I choose to imitate is Jesus Christ. God says in Leviticus 11:44, "...be ye holy, for I am holy". He never tells us to be like anyone else other than him except to be like those who imitate him. Too many times we have taken on someone else's persona in order to be liked or accepted by others. Time out! Push delete on the foolishness. Embrace YOU! Love YOU! Then the world has no choice but to follow suit (or at least respect your individuality). Sooo, I say all of that to say this blog will be my journal, my soapbox, a collage of my life. I will share my thoughts on current topics, my faith, my fashion style, makeup tips/pics, and funny anecdotes about family and friends (with their permission, of course). Basically,
I love my life. I look forward to sharing it with you!
Pow3rful in Him,
Chris
